President’s Message

Dear members,

October has been a busy month. We had an outstanding meeting at “Letʼs Cook” with a great educational on craft beers and pairings thanks to the guys at Total Wine for all of the beer, Gourmet Shop for the cheese, and Chefs Larry and John for the fantastic food! We also appreciate the help cleaning up after… true team effort. Thanks to Mike Kester as well for keeping us informed on current certification changes.
The annual Presidents awards dinner is coming soon and we are looking for your votes. Enclosed is the nominee and scholarship forms.

November 4th will be our next meeting at Sysco at 6pm. Please join us, your time and attendance is what helps this chapter move forward and we canʼt do it better without your assistance. Also the annual Christmas lighting at Saluda Shoals is coming soon and as always we are looking for volunteers to assist.

Our December meeting will be a new member drive at “Letʼs Cook Culinary Studio” on Assembly. We encourage members to come enjoy themselves in the celebration of Holidays and to please bring anyone interested in joining the ACF. A reminder will be sent by mail for this event as well so keep a look out.

Thanks to all ACFMC alumni, past and present!

Sincerely,
Chef David Grillo, CEC ACFMC President

On a side note, Cheryl and I are proud parents of a healthy baby girl! Harper Lillie was born October 17th at 10:11 am, 7lbs, 14 oz. , and we couldnʼt be happier.

UPCOMING EVENTS!!

We know the holiday time is almost here when it is time for the Chairman’s lighting at Saluda Shoals Park. This year Sunday November 24th is the date and we will begin set up at 3:00 PM. Once again we will have the use of the chocolate fountain along with doing some food stations located throughout the nature center. To be successful with this event we will need about 10 people, before, during and after the event. We try and split things up so you do not have to work the whole event and could enjoy the lights with your family which the park always invites us to come and enjoy that night for free as a thank you to the ACF Midlands members.

We are expecting 300 guests with food being ready at 5:30 PM and the lighting ceremony beginning at 6:00 PM, and the whole affair wrapping up by 8:30 PM. Please email john.lindower@bcbssc.com the time that you could help. Prep time from noon to 4:00 PM, set up from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, and production/clean up from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM. If your business or employer would like to sponsor a station by donating the food for that station please call John Lindower 803-231-8721, we still have time to get them into the program up until November 5th. We will be having a Hawaiian Holiday theme this year to help your creative juices flowing.

Thanks John Lindower

Please take special note of 2014’s Southeastern Regional Conference being held in

Charleston SC. We have been asked and have offered our assistance to the ACF Greater Charleston South Carolina Chapter with the regional conference. At this time we do not have any specific information yet, but we are asking every Midlands member to try and reserve one day to be at the conference and volunteer to assist the Greater Charleston Chapter. As we get closer to the date we will know what jobs they are in need of, and can then place you in a spot. Thank you in advance for your willingness to help South Carolina and the ACF shine.
